There’s also something to said for having the ability to speculate for director decisions and plot holes that might not be plot holes. Sometimes we miss meaning in an attempt to force the film into a template of what we expect as an audience member. A good critic should be critical of their own creative biases no? What do you think?

I always enjoyed asking my fellow film buffs the question — “Is there a movie you dont like, but understand that its a good film and it’s predominately your specific tastes or biases that coloured your opinion?”
